RAND0M JUNK

RAND0M JUNK is a Berlin-based electronic music producer. Music has been a constant since childhood — starting with glockenspiel and recorder, moving on to saxophone and piano. During high school, several bands across multiple countries, performing live with saxophone and vocals. A sentimental nature and a deep connection to music have always gone hand in hand.

The influences are wide-ranging. Growing up around a jazz vinyl collection — Modern Jazz Quartet, Oscar Peterson, J.J. Johnson — left a lasting mark on the ear. So did The Doors, and David Bowie, particularly the Berlin records. The voices of Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston remain a reference point for emotional depth in music. On the production side, Dr. Dre's debut album, the legendary beats of J Dilla, and Portishead were formative — the latter not for beats, but for their melancholic trip-hop atmosphere and the haunting quality of Beth Gibbons' voice, a combination that showed how deeply electronic music could carry emotion. The distinctive sound and songwriting of The Police also left a mark. From the German 80s, Alphaville made a strong impression, and in particular the keyboard work of Bernhard Lloyd, whose synthesizer sound and melodic sensibility left a clear trace in the way RAND0M JUNK approaches electronic music to this day.

The shift to electronic music production happened in 1994, with Steinberg Cubase on a Windows PC and a Kawai GMega sound module. The MAM MB33 followed, then the Ensoniq EPS-16+ as a first sampler. The Akai MPC 2000 was a significant turning point — its approach to rhythm and feel had a lasting influence on the workflow that continues today. A Clavia Nord Lead 1, Mackie 1402 VLZ, Alesis Midiverb 4 and dbx 166a rounded out the studio over the years. The software path went from Steinberg Cubase to Opcode Studio Vision Pro and eventually to Logic Pro, which is still in use. Almost all of the original hardware remains in the studio.

The current setup includes an SSL SiX Mixer, an Elektron Digitakt, a Schipmann Ebbe und Flut filter and a Waldorf Microwave, alongside the hardware that has been part of the studio from the beginning. Electronic music production rooted in analogue hardware, shaped by a broad range of influences, and focused on the dancefloor. A longstanding collaboration and friendship with DJ Scargo Bellini has also been a significant source of inspiration — an exceptional DJ whose deep knowledge of music styles and history across decades continues to inform and broaden the musical perspective of RAND0M JUNK.
